teachers at peace
In 2009 I attended my first class at Peace Yoga Gallery. Without any idea of what I was getting myself into, it just so happened to be one of the two hour full-body workouts that Cheri Rae is so well known for. Halfway through the class and I was dripping with sweat, my body shaking, but Cheri Rae encouraged me to use the power of breath to push through to the end. By the time we reached savasana I was hooked. I had experienced a moving meditation and knew that I had discovered exactly what my life had been missing.
Fast forward to July 2014, after almost 6 years of an “off-and-on” yoga practice and I decided to attend a yoga training course in Rishikesh, India. The intention was not to become a teacher, but rather to deepen my own practice. Upon completing the training, I made a promise to myself that there would be no more “off-and-on” with yoga. My life was dedicated to a daily practice, and I found a passion within myself to share the knowledge of this ancient practice with the world. My intention as a yoga instructor is to bring all the aspects of a complete yogic lifestyle to the people of America, rather than focus on the purely physical component. While I do wish to provide the best full body workout we have access to, I also intend to aid humanity in finding the calmness, vision, and clarity of mind that are the higher level benefits of a regular yoga practice. My hope is that students will leave my class feeling peace of mind, and having the knowledge to bring this into their own homes on a daily basis. Sessions will focus on Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, with an emphasis on connection to the breath. Namaste.
